About
GMovements

G Movements is a street dance outreach program rooted in Freestyle Hip Hop, dedicated to nurturing talent and fostering growth within Ottawa's street dance community. We aim to celebrate and elevate the artistry of street dance—encompassing styles like breaking, locking, popping, and hip hop—which often goes underappreciated. While our core focus is Freestyle Hip Hop, we embrace and encourage participation from all street dance styles, striving to honor and advance the culture as a whole.

Founder's Vision
and Expertise

Founded by Gregory, G Movements is grounded in extensive experience and knowledge. Gregory has trained, traveled, and connected with Hip Hop pioneers and innovators in Ontario, Quebec, and the United States. These experiences have enriched his understanding of Freestyle Hip Hop, Popping, and Breaking, which he brings back to share with Ottawa's community.

What's Hip-Hop?

Hip-hop is a cultural movement that began in the South Bronx, New York City, during the early 1970s. It started as a form of expression for marginalized youth, blending music (DJing), dance (breaking), visual art (graffiti), and spoken word (MCing). DJ Kool Herc is one of many DJs that helped launch hip hop by extending the breakbeats of funk records, which is called breaking; dancers then had the name B-Boy and B-Girl. Hip-hop grew out of parties and block jams, quickly becoming a voice for inner-city life, creativity, and resistance. Over time, it evolved into a global culture, influencing fashion, language, and identity.

“Freestyle is about being free. It's not about conforming to a particular style or set of moves; it's about expressing yourself authentically in the moment.”
— Jayson Ulysses
“Hip hop is a culture, not just a dance. It's how you live, how you walk, how you talk, how you dress. It's a way of being.”
— Buddha Stretch

Training with you made it happen so much faster.

“You gave me the push I needed when I needed it most and helped shape me as a hip-hop dancer. I might have reached this level on my own eventually, but training with you made it happen so much faster.”

I left every session motivated to push myself further.

“I booked private lessons with Greg to brush up on my foundations, but he gave me far more than that. He taught me the history behind hip-hop and specific moves, which added real depth. As someone who’s pretty laid-back, I tend to coast through moves, but Greg showed me that some need real energy to honor how they were created. He shared smart conditioning tips, opened my eyes to things like playing with levels, and always gave clear, constructive feedback. I left every session motivated to push myself further. Highly recommend.”
